When I heard about Ruth and Shaun’s plans for a low-key wedding in Maidstone, I could not wait to photograph it! Whilst I love shooting the beautiful details and stylings that are a part of many “big” weddings, there’s a different kind of magic around intimate do’s in flip flops with just your best pals as witnesses.
Having got engaged in South Africa only a few months ago, Ruth + Shaun had hoped to marry on the beach just a few days later. But, since Shaun – not a South African native, like his bride – would’ve had to wait three months for an interview process by the authorities, plans had to change. Instead, these two opted for a simple ceremony near their home, in the beautiful setting of the Archbishop’s Palace in Maidstone, Kent, followed by a full English breakfast at the local pub.
With everything else stripped away, this wedding was a stunning opportunity for me to focus on photographing the stuff that really matters at a wedding: the excitement, the love and the laughter between friends and partners.
Massive congratulations to Ruth and Shaun! It was a pleasure to be a small part of your celebrations!
