When Edna and Allan’s daughter-in-law Tracy first contacted me about photographing the couple’s 50th wedding anniversary celebrations, I was absolutely delighted. I’d never photographed an anniversary, let alone such a milestone one! After first meeting the family, I was even more excited to photograph the day. Allan and Edna are such a sweet couple – chatty and playful, with big smiles – and have a lovely family around them too. The whole day took place at The Anchor Inn, and Edna and Allan exchanged pennies during the ceremony, dated 2015 and 1965, to mark their accomplishment.
After the ceremony, we took a few moments for the couples portrait session around the boating lake. We wandered over a bridge and into a huge field, where I asked Allan and Edna to dance a little. This can be a nice way to get candid photos of the couple close together before photographing some more posed portraits. These two broke out into giggles and started line-dancing! As we wrapped up the portraits, I wanted to ask Allan and Edna what the key was to such a long-lasting marriage. Throughout the day, it was evident that Edna and Allan take great care of each other. Always holding hands, they had helped each other get ready at the beginning of the day, and stayed gently by each others’ sides during the afternoon. “Compromise,” Allan said, without missing a beat. “And always wanting to kiss each other!”
Congratulations to Edna and Allan on your 50th wedding anniversary! Thank you so much for choosing me to photograph such a special occasion. Wishing you both many more years of happiness together!
