Hayley + James: Worthing Dome

Meet Hayley and James! Back in July 2011 when I was first starting out as a photographer, Hayley was one of the first people I ever photographed. We planned a portrait session on a graffiti’d street in Brighton, and it was so much sunnier than I expected, I ended up rushing into Jessops to buy a reflector to deal with the harsh midday sun! As a singer, Hayley occasionally needed new headshots, so we worked together a few times over the years and she also recommended me to a few of her musician friends.

So, when Hayley contacted me about photographing her wedding, I was thrilled! These two planned an awesome day. Hayley got ready at Hotel du Vin in Brighton, and the ceremony was held at the top of Worthing Dome. With huge windows all around, it’s a fabulous location over two floors, which made for some cool photo opportunities. After the ceremony, everyone hopped on a vintage bus and off we went into the Sussex countryside to The Ginger Fox where there was a delicious buffet and a flamenco dancer! Given that the bride and groom (and a lot of their pals) are musicians, I maybe shouldn’t have been suprised when the groom and his best men broke out into Extreme’s ‘More Than Words’ during the speeches – it was just perfect! Of course the party really kicked off when the bridal party started up the live band karaoke in the evening!

Huge congratulations to Hayley and James! Here are a few favourite photographs from your beautiful day!

Edna + Allan: The Anchor Inn, Lewes

When Edna and Allan’s daughter-in-law Tracy first contacted me about photographing the couple’s 50th wedding anniversary celebrations, I was absolutely delighted. I’d never photographed an anniversary, let alone such a milestone one! After first meeting the family, I was even more excited to photograph the day. Allan and Edna are such a sweet couple – chatty and playful, with big smiles – and have a lovely family around them too. The whole day took place at The Anchor Inn, and Edna and Allan exchanged pennies during the ceremony, dated 2015 and 1965, to mark their accomplishment.

After the ceremony, we took a few moments for the couples portrait session around the boating lake. We wandered over a bridge and into a huge field, where I asked Allan and Edna to dance a little. This can be a nice way to get candid photos of the couple close together before photographing some more posed portraits. These two broke out into giggles and started line-dancing! As we wrapped up the portraits, I wanted to ask Allan and Edna what the key was to such a long-lasting marriage. Throughout the day, it was evident that Edna and Allan take great care of each other. Always holding hands, they had helped each other get ready at the beginning of the day, and stayed gently by each others’ sides during the afternoon. “Compromise,” Allan said, without missing a beat. “And always wanting to kiss each other!”

Congratulations to Edna and Allan on your 50th wedding anniversary! Thank you so much for choosing me to photograph such a special occasion. Wishing you both many more years of happiness together!

Rachael + Russ: Chiddinglye, West Sussex

A couple of weeks ago, I was photographing the wedding of Rachael and Russ – their day was AWESOME! They had chosen a beautiful setting for their Humanist ceremony – under a huge tree on the farm of Chiddinglye in West Sussex. The land is in an area of outstanding natural beauty, with a private home and several barns. After the Humanist ceremony, drinks and canapés were served in the gardens of the house, and then everyone made their way down to the barns for the reception. With hay bales all around and a field for camping, it was a really unique setting! The hog roast, salads and desserts were made by the on-site caterer The Garden Chef and were just sublime!

Entertainment came from acoustic folk duo Mambo Jambo at the beginning of the reception, and then a ceilidh followed in the barn which got everyone dancing! This was such a great wedding – totally relaxed, with perfect weather, a fabulous “swish-y” dress, and great speeches! Rach and Russ are such a vibrant, fun couple – it was a real pleasure to photograph their wedding day! Many thanks to Gilly for recommending me, and massive congratulations to the happy couple!! Check out some of my favourite shots from the day…
